On Wednesday, she walked up to the venue for over a kilometre in the blazing sun to see the burial spot of a man whom she had met on several occasions. “In a village called Honnagatti he was shooting with Bharati for Doorada Betta, I still remember that meeting with him,” she reminisces.

Gangamma has 12 children (eight of whom are alive) and has 100 grandchildren. It is the element of Bhakti and respect for women depicted in Rajkumar’s movies that drew her to the late actor’s films. “The present generation don’t seem to be interested in such kind of movies,” she says, adding, “nowadays people just dance, wearing minimal clothes.” She does not like any of the present-day heroes.

The lady who was close to tears on seeing Rajkumar’s samadhi told Deccan Herald that she has seen all of Rajkumar’s movies and some of them repeatedly. “I wish he had lived for at least two more years,” was her ardent wish.

After spending enough time at the samadhi, Gangamma was ready to leave for home at late noon. She did not mind walking back for over a kilometre on a day when there were no buses or other modes of transport.
