Week-long drama organised to mark Raj’s birth anniversary

Kanteerava studios is decked up for a week-long drama show from Tuesday, organised to mark the Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar”s 79th birth anniversary. All shows will be based on the Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar”s movies with mythological plot.

Kannada and Culture department Secretary I M Vittal Murthy said that the week-long event named Raj Ranga Namana Saptaha will be drama performances by artistes” group. They will re-enact selected Rajkumar”s movies that were based on mythological stories. “We planned this kind of event because Rajkumar too came from the theatre background. It used to give Rajkumar immense pleasure to act in dramas, based on mythological stories,” he stated.

At least ten groups from different parts of the State will be performing. For this event, around Rs 20 lakh would be spent, of which Rs 11.5 lakh will be borne by the government, while the other sponsorers including Kannada Nataka Akademy, would bear the cost.

Cine actor-turned politician Ambareesh will inaugurate this festival on Tuesday at 6.30 pm, while the Kannada and Culture Minister H S Mahadev Prasad will preside. Rajkumar”s wife Parvathamma, cine star Vishnuvardhan and eminent playwright M Hirannaiah would be the chief guests. Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar”s wife Parvathamma gave a call to his fans to build a unique memorial for their hero.

UNIQUE MEMORIAL FOR THESPIAN
Parvathamma, after unveiling the bronze statue of Rajkumar and inaugurating his photo exhibition at Lumbini Gardens on Monday evening, said, her husband had great regard for his fans and treated them almost like god. “He told me once that his fans would take care of his family after his death. Today I can see his prediction come true,” she said.
