A long queue of Rajkumar fans, with wreaths and flowers in their hands, stood patiently to pay their homage to the departed actor on his second death anniversary at his samadhi at Kanteerava Studio on Saturday.
The City police, which turned the place into a virtual fortress to avoid any untoward incidents, ensured smooth flow of the visitors.
“People started gathering here from midnight and we had taken precautions as we had a bitter experience last year,” said Yathiraj, President of the Watch Committee of Rajkumar Memorial.
The crowd decreased by around 8 am, but picked up again by around 12 noon. “Fans will continue to throng the place till midnight to pay homages in the same way as it happened last year,” Yathiraj said.
In the morning, the Rajkumar family members – wife Parvathamma, sons Shivraj, Raghavendra, Puneeth along with their brother-in- law, Ram Kumar and their wives paid their homage.
While, some visitors had brought sweets as offering to their annavaru, others had brought his favourite meat dish. CDs, DVDs and photographs of Rajkumar were sold in the vicinity of the samadhi.
The Dr Rajkumar Trust which had organised food for 10,000 people had a tough time as the number increased five times and the agency which had bagged the order had to repeat it thrice during the day as the number of people continued unabatedly.
On the delay in construction of the monument, Raghavendra Rajkumar said that the blueprint for the monument is ready and the government’s permission is awaited.
