The name is Kumar, Raj Kumar
In the months immediately preceding and following Dr Rajkumar’s death, If You Come Today a song from his film, Operation Diamond Racket (1978), became an incredibly popular internet meme. In India, it rivalled global favourites like the Star Wars kid and Badger Badger . Opinion on the song was divided between a burgeoning bunch of Indian hipsters who found it kitschy and Rajkumar’s hardcore fanbase from his home state Karnataka who found it genuinely cool. The debate rages on wherever the video is hosted.
The movie was the third chronicling the adventures of Prakash aka CID 999, a James Bondesque superspy. The director duo of Dorai-Bhagwan began making spy flicks relatively late in their careers, having started with mythological films in the 1950s.Eager to experiment with different styles, they’d already made CID 999 in Goa and CID 999 in Jackpot before scoring their biggest hit in the genre with Operation Diamond Racket.
