Raj family extends aid to riot victims

Emotions ran high on Thursday at the Sadashivanagar residence of late Kannada superstar Rajkumar, where Parvathamma Rajkumar sought forgiveness for the violence soon after the actor’s death.

She told relatives of seven persons killed in the riots, “You all are in grief over the loss of a close relative, and our situation is also the same. We share the same grief. Kindly forgive us for what happened on that day.”

Earlier, she distributed Rs 50,000 cheques to each of the bereaved families. While seven families accepted the gesture, relatives of police constable Manjunath Malladi, who was lynched during the riots, were not present.

“You are all like our family members. You can come and approach us anytime and tell us your problems. Maybe, your dear ones were destined to accompany Appaji,” said Raghavendra Rajkumar. Shivrajkumar urged the police not to harrass any innocent person as part of investigation into the case.

Basavayya, father of Sailesh (25), who died in the violence, pleaded that Raj family should pressurise the State government to release the Rs one lakh compensation at the earliest.
