The city municipal council in its general body meet on Tuesday resolved to name IB Colony after Dr Sangameshwar Sardar and Chandramouleshwar circle as Dr Rajkumar circle. The meet gave its nod to various developmental works worth Rs 55.87 lakh to be taken up with the assistance of HUDCO.
When some of the members raised objections saying the list of works was different from the one which was approved previously, president M Earanna, who chaired the meet said that the latest list was suggested by the MLA Papareddy. Syed Mukram insisted that the city should be surveyed to find out the urgent needs of the civilians.
He said the roads in Ghalib Nagar and from Mothi Maszid to Beroon Quilla needed to be given top priority. He said that the latest list of the works was unilateral.
The meet approved the tree plantation around the city at a cost of Rs 40.37 lakh to be carried out in five years. It also approved the tender to a contractor for recruitment of 20 operators on contract basis to work at Jackwell Purification Unit and IPS Pumphouse of the second stage drinking water project of the city.
Member Virupaxi alleged that many of the municipality owned shops taken on lease by some people were given on higher rents to others. He said that there was no point in continuing the sanitation packages given to the contractors as they had failed to deliver the goods. He said that in many prominent places in the city, garbage had piled up.
The municipal commissioner, environment officer and sanitation staff have failed to supervise the sanitation work in the city, he alleged.
Many of the members opposed the proposal to exempt Ghalib Trust building from paying property tax saying that there was no necessity as such the trust was getting quite a good rent from the Prbhu Vihar restaurant in the ground floor. Earanna said that the proposal would be sent to the government as the municipality had no power to waive the tax.
