Kannada Cinema Matinee idol Dr Rajkumar’s 80th birthday was celebrated with pomp and glory across the city on Friday. At many places, auto-rickshaw drivers were seen celebrating the thespian’s birthday. On Magadi road, members of ‘Kannadada Kanmani Dr Rajkumar Abhimaanigala Sangha’ were seen distributing ladoos to the public. At many places his fans were seen bursting crackers.
SPECIAL POOJA: Family members of Rajkumar including his wife Parvathamma Rajkumar, son Puneeth Rajkumar, and Raghavendra Rajkumar, offered pooja at his samadhi at the Kanteerava stadium. His fans were also seen celebrating at his residence in Sadashivanagar.
BLOOD DONATION: At many places his fans donated blood to mark the veteran’s birthday. Dr Rajkumar (Appaji) Raktha Nidhi organised the blood donation and medical check-up camp at the Kanteerava studio. Around 400 people donated blood including his sons Raghavendra and Puneeth donated blood. Many took oath to donate eyes on the same occasion.
FAN MAKES CAKE: His fans Kumar and Suresh Babu prepared Rajkumar’s idol in cake which is 5.7 feet height and weighs 250 kilo, for which both took more than one month. They have spend Rs 2 lakh. His birthday cake has been kept at the Iyengar bakery at BVK Iyengar road near Abhinaya theatre. The cake will be kept at the bakery for the next three days for public viewing and later it will be given to Rajkumar’s family.
PHOTO EXHIBITION: On the occasion, the Abhimaani Balaga Trust organised a photo exhibition of Dr Rajkumar, where more than 1,000 pictures of the matinee idol were displayed near Kanteerava studio.
MUSICAL TRIBUTE: The Dr Rajkumar foundation has organised ‘Kannada Samvedane’, a musical tribute to the thespian. Directed by music director Hamsalekha, noted singers like Rajesh Krishnan, Hemanth Kumar, Manjula Gururaj, Archana Udupa and other sang the most popular numbers of his at the Shikshakara Sadan.
